Support The Troops-NWA's 2004 Labor Day Results!!
Well, the 2004 Labor Day Care Package Drive has come to a close, and STT-NWA wants to thank the entire Northwest Arkansas region for making our very first public care package drive a COMPLETE SUCCESS!!!  STT-NWA Chairman David Williams was pleased to announce the final numbers the morning of Friday, September 10. Altogether, STT-NWA sent 50 cases of care package supplies to the Siloam Springs post office Friday morning, with the total weight of the shipment reaching 1,221 pounds.  That number nearly tripled the ammount that was sent to the units in July 2004.  Mr. Williams said it was important to thank those who helped make this drive so succesful.  "This drive would never have been the success that it was if it had not been for the people of Northwest Arkansas reaching down deep, and spending what they could to show our men and women overseas that we support them and their mission in Iraq."  While the community support was crucial, Mr. Williams also thanked several local businesses for their support during the Labor Day Drive.  "The support from the Northwest Arkansas business community was just as crucial as the community support," said Mr. Williams.  "If companies like Pepsi Cola, McDonalds of Northwest Arkansas, Concerned Communications of Siloam Springs, Dayspring Greeting Cards, Simmons Foods, and Wal-Mart, Inc. had not stepped forward to help us, this Care Package Drive would never have made it out of the planning stages.  We cannot thank them enough for their support."  Mr. Williams also took time to thank the members of the STT-NWA Steering Committee, the families of some of the soliders overseas and fellow STT-NWA chairmen who put in their time and energy to drive this event to success.  "My co-chairmen, Heather Earley and Elaine Williams, and STT-NWA Steering Committee members were there with me every step of the way on this," said Mr. Williams.  "I would like to particularly thank the family of SGT James Erwin for their help and support of this drive.   Jessica Erwin, (James' sister) and her parents were out there with us during the rain on Saturday, August 28th, getting soaked but refusing to close shop.  James' aunt and uncle, Gary & Debbie Bryant were out there as well, and they took even more time out of their schedules to help pack up all 50 boxes this past Thursday night."  Mr. Williams also took time out to thank certain individuals who provided their professional talents, time, and equipment to help pull off the successful drive.  He particularly thanked Mr. Tim Stone of Lightning Bolt Advertising, Mr. Beau Ashby of Dayspring Greeting Cards, and Dr. Darren Lee of Siloam Springs for their time and the services they provided.  Support The Troops - NWA has already begun finalizing plans for the Spring 2005 Care Package Drive which will take place from the middle of March 2005 until the end of April 2005..  If you would like more information on STT-NWA, or would like to become a volunteer, email David Williams at either address: davidw@supportthetroops-nwa.com or david.williams85@us.army.mil.  You may also call Support The Troops-NWA at (479) 549-3590 or (479) 238-3716.
