| Support The Troops-NWA (STT-NWA) received heartbreaking news on January 30, 2005 when we learned that a member of the 239th Combat Engineers based out of Clarksville, AR, Specialist Lyle Rymer, paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country. STT-NWA and the 239th became linked in April 2004 when we adopted the 239th as a unit we would support with care packages during their tour of duty in Iraq. We have remained linked throughout this past year, and we grieve with the 239th family over the loss. SPC Rymer was killed by a sniper bullet on Friday, January 29, as he provided security during preparations for the Iraqi elections. The 239th Combat Engineers were setting up barricades and other security apparatus when the sniper struck, The 239th held a memorial service yesterday which included a 21-gun salute, and the sounding of TAPS. Platoon leader Brian Mason told reporters that Rymer's death is all the more frustrating due to the fact that the brigade is expected home soon. Rymer was survived by his wife LaTisha, a 2-year old son, Shawn; 10-month old daughter, Jasmine; two sisters, Michelle 26 and Catherine 28; and his mother, Marion Rymer-Schultz. STT-NWA stands with the Rymer family as they grieve their loss, and we are making efforts to help lessen that burden. We have made it easy for the general public, YES YOU, to show your support of the Rymer Family by posting your words of support and encouragement below on this webpage.
