\volunteers sorted through, packaged, and prepared
postage on as they began their long journey to Iraq, Afghanistan,
and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
STT-NWA is pleased to announce that we took in over 2,500 lbs of donations for the Christmas Care Package Drive. We mailed out exactly 130 boxes of care packages to 6 different military units serving in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Those units included: 239th Combat Engineers, 2-5 CAV in Sadr City, Iraq, 120th Engineer Battalion in Iraq, 297th Military Intelligence in Iraq, 125th Military Intelligence in Afghanistan, and the 186th Military Police in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. We are already beginning to receive pictures from the front of our units receiving these care packages, and they are a MAJOR HIT with the soldiers!!! To see these pictures, just click here!!! All of this success would not be possible had it not been for people, and businesses stepping forward to give us a hand. First and foremost, I must thank Mike Disney and KAYH Family FM 89.3 for joining forces with us during this care package drive. Mike, you were a driving force behind the effort of getting the community out in support of this care package drive. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I must thank our wonderful volunteers -- Fred & Rebecca Wiese, Gary & Debbie Bryant, Bill Smith, Leigh Lee, James Owens, Vaughn Hatch, and Jim & Pam Erwin. A great big THANK YOU goes out to Simmons Foods of Siloam Springs for being one of our corporate sponsors. We would like to thank the following Simmons employees who stepped up when we really needed them: the Breeder/Pullet Service Techs, Broiler Service Techs, Pat Spence, Kelley Martin, Alyson Muldoon, Tonja Watkins, Mary Doyle, & Mark Simmons. If I overlooked anyone, please forgive me. I would also like to thank the staff at KNWA-TV for their news coverage and support that they provided throughout the care package drive. To all of the businesses and community groups that stepped forward as drop-off sites, there are not enough words to thank you for your valuable service. In closing, again thank you to all who worked with STT-NWA to make this Care Package Drive such a success. One last thing here before I go. With us shipping out 2,500 lbs of supplies, we ran up a pretty large postage bill, over $3,000 in postage. Now, we need everyone's help in paying for that postage. If you can financially help us, we would love the help. Give what you feel you can give, whether it is $1.00 or $100. Every bit helps, and is needed.
